Still going strong after more than 20 years |

Despite having been around for more than 20 years, the classic Penta awning from the Danish Isabella factory is still going strong. Not only is it Isabella’s best-selling awning for permanent pitch caravanners, it is in all likelihood also the most popular model among this group of caravanners in Europe. It is certainly difficult to find a single caravan site in Europe without a Penta somewhere among the many awnings. In all fairness, it must be said that this old favourite has been subject to constant product development over the years, which explains why the pentagonal Penta can still be termed the Rolls Royce of awnings. The Penta’s popularity may be attributed to a number of factors. The fact that it offers plenty of space without the irritating support pole usually found in the middle of an awning is important to many, as is the light interior created by the two light panels in the roof. The stunning design with its blue-grey and dark blue facade and the heavy, stylish white curtains are also important to many caravanners. The fantastic Isabella quality, which is evident in both the materials and the workmanship, also means that a Penta will last for many, many years if it is looked after correctly. Despite its size, the Penta is relatively easy to erect provided you follow the instructions available either in writing or on video from the distributor or Isabella’s website. A good tip when it comes to putting up the Penta is to spray the caravan channel with impregnator before erecting the awning, as this makes it easier to attach the Penta to the caravan. It is also a good idea to use a so-called Hercules tensioner. |

Despite its size, the Penta is extremely stable even in high winds and stormy conditions. Its stability is enhanced by the absence of high corners and the pentagonal design, which prevents the wind from getting a grip on the canvas. To be doubly sure that your awning will stay in place no matter what the weather, however, you may like to invest in a storm securing kit with extra guy ropes and strong pegs. In design terms, the Penta is characterised by the all-round canopy which prevents dirt and grime from the roof running down the sides when it rains, and functions as a small sun blind in strong sun. There are entrances in the right-hand side and in the left-hand corner. The front and sides may be unzipped and fully removed to create a terrace or indeed the largest sun blind on the market. If, despite the Penta’s size, you require more room, then you can add an annex with an inner tent which may be fitted on one side of the awning. You can also add a Shadow sun canopy to the front or side if required. |
