This coming season, the Danish Isabella factory in Vejle will be launching the largest universal awning on the European market. These days, caravanners want ever larger universal awnings because the length of the average caravan in Europe is gradually increasing. The new awning, which has been christened the Universal 420, is a further development of Isabella’s 300 and 360 models. The 420 measures no less than 230 cm in depth and 440 cm in width. The highly flexible bracket construction ensures that the Universal 420 will fit almost any caravan. Universal awnings have become very popular with many caravanners over the past few years as a result of their all-weather design - equally useful at the height of summer and in the depth of winter. Isabella does, however, recommend the purchase of their optional winter securing set for those who intend to overwinter with their awning. The additional attachment options mean that the Universal stays put even if the wind reaches storm force. And should any damage occur, it is worth remembering that insurance companies will only pay out if a storm securing set has been fitted. The popularity of universal awnings stems partially from the fact that it takes just a few simple measures to ensure that they are highly comfortable even when the outside temperature is below zero. First and foremost, a good ‘floor’ is essential. This can be created by spreading a so-called ground cover sheet under the awning, topped by a tarpaulin. These, in turn, should be covered by an insulating comfort carpet, with a standard awning carpet on the top. The four layers provide a high level of insulation, and prevent damp which may contribute to condensation inside the awning. It is also a good idea to fit an inner thermo-roof, which insulates and collects condensate. |
