Today we only use spiral zips, since they provide the best finish in the corners, and the zip fastener/Slider moves a lot easier. Unfortunately the zip sliders are easily worn, especially on the Penta awnings, since it is typicallly used for permanent caravanning, and the same door is nearly always used. The zips do not have to be changed, the sliders are easy to change. This is done most easily by removing the side panel, then there are 2 fasteners on the awning and 2 on the removed side panel. The fasteners are now moved to the other end of the zip, (ie from the stop end to the feeder end) where they go off without any obstacles. Repeat for the other sliders, and by exchanging the fasteners, either for new ones or by putting the used ones onto another door, and the worn ones where they are almost never used. NB. Please ensure that the sliders are put on correctly. If you encounter problems with the running of the zips, ensure that the awning is erected and tensioned correctly. Never use force on your zip fastener. Should the fastener seem rather tight, remove the pegs at the zip bottom and repeg to a better position. DO NOT LUBRICATE WITH OIL. For ease of use, it is recommended that you lubricate the zips with "AquaTex" impregnation spray or something similar. Tips in maintenance: Never use force. To avoid damaging the stop ends, care should be taken when assembling the zip. Always keep the zips clean and free of dirt and sand. A silicone based impregnator (AquaTex) acts as an efficient lubricant. By using AquaTex, the sliders will move easily on the zip, and at the same time ensure that the fabric around the zip is waterproofed. Also, the impregnation spray helps prevent infiltration of water through the teeth. Prolonged lubrication will occasionally cause the zip to lose its "lock" i.e. it opens up after the slider has been pulled. This usually indicates that the slider is worn and needs to be replaced. Where a zip is obliged to bend with the panel of the awning, it tensions in the outer side to achieve the best finish, because as yet, there is no such thing as a "bendy" zip. Always use a verandah bar when using the awning verandah style. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
