Europe’s leading awning manufacturer, Isabella, situated in Vejle, Denmark has further developed the traditional fibreglass tent poles and made them stronger and lighter, especially for touring campers. The new poles have been named CarbonX. CarbonX is the result of many years of development work. By combining the high flexibility of fibreglass with extremely strong carbon fibres – carbon fibres are 4-5 times stronger than steel – Isabella has produced an up until now unknown combination of flexibility and strength, whilst at the same time significantly reducing the total weight of a set of awning poles. In 1985 Isabella launched its fibreglass awning poles. They were marketed under the name IXL. Since then they have been second to none. The new CarbonX poles are manufactured exclusively for Isabella’s own products. The new poles also fit the previously produced awnings with fibreglass poles. Due to their extreme light weight and their comparable strength, the new poles will no doubt mean increased competition for the traditional and slightly cheaper steel poles. The fibreglass products have a number of other advantages. Many campers prefer the fibreglass poles because they are more pleasant to the touch.
