As campers’ demands for more comfort grow, focus is now on awning flooring. Many campers have discovered that an impressive and expensive awning does not always mean that it will be warm and comfortable on the inside. A standard awning groundsheet in direct contact with the earth rarely does the job as both damp and earth smell permeate the awning, resulting in cold feet – even with the heating on. Isabella, the Danish awning manufacturer, has been trying to solve this problem for a number of years now and recommends a four to five layer covering. It may sound complicated but it isn’t, and more and more campers are prepared to go to the extra lengths this involves because it has shown its effectiveness. Begin by laying down a GroundCover by Fibertex. It is important that the groundsheet extends about 25 cm outside the awning as this protects the awning from mud and other dirt and prevents puddles forming on the groundsheet because the water can permeate through. The next layer is made up of specially made Isafloor tiles. A patented connection system makes them easy to lay and they can be sawn to exactly fit the awning. They are comfortable to walk on and help insulate against ground cold. This covering is particularly suitable for permanent campers. The third layer is a large tarpaulin which stretches a little up the sides of the tent and prevents damp entering from underneath. | The fourth layer is a ComfortCarpet by Fibertex. This is a warm and comfortable insulating underlay. On top of all this comes the traditional awning carpet, which must be damp-proof and could, for example, be a Swedish Bolon. Many campers emphasise the need for good, well-insulated flooring, particularly at the beginning and end of the camping season. The Isabella system means that it is possible to create the same comfortable and warm indoor climate in the awning and in the caravan, so that they function as one unit. | |||||||||

For further comfort under door canopies and sun canopies, Isabella has developed a special roll-out floor – the Isabella Rollfloor, which is comfortable to walk on and which allows water to permeate through. | ||||||||||
