Universal awning will even survive a hard winter |
||
As more and more people are taking to camping in the winter, so interest in greater comfort in winter awnings has increased. This is something Europe’s largest specialist awning factory, Isabella, situated in Vejle in Denmark, has taken into account by developing two of the factory’s all-year-round awnings so that they can also be used in winter conditions. The models in question here are the Universal 300 and the Universal 360, which when purchased with a winter securing package will also be able to withstand harsh winter conditions. The difference between winter awnings and all-year-round awnings is first and foremost that the all-year-round awning is both deeper and wider, supplying a greater level of comfort through features such as more openings. The basic winter securing package consists of three extra support poles and two extra ridgepoles, which when assembled provide the all-year-round awning pole system with the same strength as a that of a typical winter awning. It should, of course, be mentioned that the Universal awnings already have a pole system designed using the same principle as for a typical winter awning, containing a strong cross in the roof construction. If you want to obtain optimal benefit from your winter camping, it is a good idea to buy a little extra equipment, for example winter securing equipment such as extra guy ropes for storm resistance, a set of “Tarzan pegs” that can be knocked into frosty ground, and not least an inner roof to ensure the right indoor climate. An inner roof has several functions. First and |

foremost it ensures that heat does not rise directly towards the roof covering, thereby forming a significant amount of condensation. In addition, the condensation that always forms during winter camping drips down onto the inner roof, and the water then flows out over the whole surface with the result that evaporation takes place even more quickly. Finally, the inner roof also works by insulating against the cold from above. Even if the Universal models look remarkably like a general summer awning, care is taken to ensure that they can also be used for camping in snow and blizzards. The doors on both sides therefore have covered zips so that they do not freeze, and both doors can also be opened from the top. This is practical if there is snow lying against the side of the tent. The fact that Universal tents with winter securing equipment can be insured as winter awnings shows that they meet the requirements for winter awnings. |
